#NFSNET
- In 1985, the NSFNET was initially designed as a general-purpose network.
- Its primary goal was to connect supercomputers, research centers, and regional campuses.
- The existing TCP/IP protocol, developed and tested on ARPANET, was employed for this purpose.
- The maximum backbone speed was a modest 56 kb/s.
